This STACKED mirror’s frame was created piece by individual piece, layer upon layer, carefully controlling the placement in order to create this rounded profile. The reclaimed Heart Pine used in this frame was salvaged from a gutted Brooklyn Brownstone's building joist. The wood's natural coloring shows off tones ranging from light yellows and blonde to dark brown, including some almost black areas where century old nails stained the wood over decades. This is a natural finish and no is stain involved. This old-growth wood is only available through reclamation. Once complete, the surface was gently sculpted smooth using a variety of hand held tools, resulting in a finely honed finish with slight undulations, similar to that of hand-built ceramics. While the salvaged wood offers one-of-a-kind patterns reminiscent of basketry or mosaic tile work, the overall shape, quantity, scale, and material choice of Richard’s frames are customizable upon request.
