Salvaged Oak + Oxidized Finish; vintage Silver ashtray
This STACKED Smoking Table by Richard Haining, curves upward into a gooseneck that holds a handcrafted silver ashtray. The ashtray, produced by the Conquistador factory in Mexico City in the early 1950s, adds a layer of historical depth to the piece.
Inspired by the standing ashtrays of the early 20th century, this work nods to the elegance and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Vintage ashtrays from that time—ranging from Art Nouveau to Art Deco to Mid-Century—served not only as tools but also as status symbols.
True to the spirit of Haining's STACKED Collection, the piece is constructed using his signature method of layering reclaimed wood, emphasizing both sustainability and fine craft. The result is a functional sculpture that bridges the past and present, celebrating ritual, design history, and the evolving aesthetics of smoking culture.
